A recent case illustrates our effectiveness in providing a defense against murder charges. Our client was accused of shooting his wife at home, leaving the scene and hiding in a friend's home.
Our client went first to another firm where he was advised to plead guilty to first-degree murder and to negotiate the sentence. We disagreed with this recommendation and resolved to do the work necessary to provide an aggressive defense after a thorough investigation.
Our defense revolved around questioning the prosecutor's claim that our client intended to commit murder. To do this we worked with a ballistics expert, who testified that every third time the gun in question was placed on safety, it fired anyway. By proving the gun was defective, we successfully cast doubt on allegations that the death was premeditated and intentional. Instead, we argued that the gun fired accidently while our client waved it around.
The result of our representation? A hung jury in the first trial and a verdict of not guilty in the second of all homicide charges..
